FINDINGS:
During the 2026 Olefins Unit Turnaround, visual inspection of PKG-14 Quench Water Header revealed corrosion that exceeded the acceptance criteria per API 570 section 7. Refer to the information below for specific dimensions of the aforementioned defects.
Coating disbonded over roughly 3 ft of the elbow extrados with underlying pitting to 0.118 in remaining wall against a 0.180 in t-min.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
- Option 1: Replace the spool piece with the same schedule and re-coat.
JUSTIFICATION(S):
The remaining wall is below the minimum for the operating pressure and the corrosion mechanism is active under the coating.
