FINDINGS:
During the 2026 Olefins Unit Turnaround, visual inspection of E-312 (Depropanizer Reboiler) — Channel revealed cracking that exceeded the acceptance criteria per ASME Section VIII Div 1 UW-51. Refer to the information below for specific dimensions of the aforementioned defects.
PT indication 1.8 in long at the toe of the 8 in inlet nozzle weld, oriented circumferentially.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
- Option 1: Excavate to sound metal, re-weld, PT the repair.
JUSTIFICATION(S):
A circumferential toe crack in a cyclic-service nozzle weld will propagate. It has to come out before the exchanger goes back in.
